Hello and good afternoon, this is Betsy Green, principal of Blackburn Elementary School. This is going to be a long message with a lot of information that you will need to know. It is with a sad heart that we will not be having school in our building for the remainder of this school year. I truly miss our students and our staff. Despite not meeting in our school building, I know learning is still occurring in your homes. I have been so proud of so many of our students. Daily, teachers are sharing what neat things kids are accomplishing at home. Kudos to all of you that have been dedicated to helping your child in getting their work completed each day. If your child is struggling with getting their work done, I suggest setting aside a time and a place for school work each day.
If your child is doing online work through google classroom, they will continue to do this through the end of the school year. If your child is working on a paper packet, you will need to turn in their old paper packet and pick up a new one that will last through May 1st. Also, library books can be returned at the packet pick up times as well. Here are the details for the picking up and dropping off of packets.
You will pull up to the front of the school like you do for parent pick up. You will stay in your car and we will come to your window to find out what paper packets you need and take up the old packets to be graded and library books ready to be returned. The paper packet pick up times will be Monday, April 13 from 10am to 2pm and Tuesday, April 14, from 2 to 6pm.
If you have requested food, it will be available for pick up on Monday, April 13 and Wednesday, April 15 from 10 to 11:30.
Also, please keep in mind that the teachers will continue to be in close contact with you. If you or your child have emailed or contacted the teacher, please give them 24 hours to respond. Our teachers are spending countless hours trying to accommodate everyone’s schedules, so please be patient.
Once the shelter in place has been lifted, we will be contacting you about a time to pick up yearbooks and group pictures.
Mrs. Harwood will have an Art Show on Aug 19 for this year’s Art. This will not include the new Kinder students for the 20-21 school year. There will be a 2nd show in March of next year that will include their art.
Starting Monday, April 13 if you wish to request a teacher for your child for next year, you can go to the BES webpage and look under the news tab to find the google form you must fully fill out for the request to be considered for next year. Please keep in mind that some teachers may be changing grade levels, so filling in a 2nd choice is a very good idea. The request time will end on Friday, May 8 and the google form will no longer be available.
The transcript of this call will be posted on our webpage under the news tab as well if you need to refer back to it for times and details.
I hope you and your family are doing well and staying healthy. I wish you a great Easter weekend and if I can be of help to you, please email me or call the school.
