Good afternoon BES families. This is Betsy Green, principal of Blackburn Elementary School and I am so excited to welcome you all back to school.
I have a few important dates and reminders for you as we get ready for a fantastic school year.
First if your student is signed up for virtual learning, there is a mandatory orientation meeting that will be virtual. The meeting will be on Thursday, August 6 at 11:30, and you will receive an email with the information and the link.
Open House for all other students will be Thursday, August 6. If your child’s last name begins with A-M, your time for Open House will be from 8:00- 11:00 that morning. If your child’s last name begins with N-Z, your Open House will be from 1:00- 4:00 on the afternoon of the 6th. We ask that each child have only 2 adults with them in order to observe social distancing. This is a drop in and we ask that you not talk about parent conference items at the open house. The purpose of the open house is to meet the teacher, find out if there are any items that your child needs in addition to the supply list, and to get a ppu decal or sign up for the correct bus. Transportation tasks will occur in the media center. We encourage all visitors to wear a mask while in the building. You can expect your child’s homeroom teacher to contact you via phone or text on August 5.
We do have several very important changes for the upcoming year. Please remember these changes are in place for the safety of the students and adults in our building.
First, only kindergarten parents will be allowed to walk their students to class the first two days of school. Beginning with the third day of school, no parents will be allowed to walk students to class. Also, no adults will be allowed into the building, except to pick up a child.
Next, students will not be allowed into the building until 7:30 each morning. If you arrive before 7:30 to drop your student off, your student will need to stay in the car with you until parent pick drop off begins at 7:30. The school doors will not be unlocked until 7:30 each morning.
Parent pick up will only occur through the parent pick up line this year. All parents going through the parent pick up line in the afternoon must have a parent pick up decal. We will not have a 3:05 dismissal this year where students can come to the front office to be picked up like we have had in the previous years. You will need to stay in your car and pick your student up through the line. If you need to get your child early, you need to arrive before 2:40 to check them out.
No outside food/ treats will be allowed unless the food is prepackaged and individually wrapped. This includes treats for birthdays.
Also, water fountains will not be available. Water refill stations will be available for students to refill individual water bottles. Please make sure your child brings a refillable bottle with their name clearly marked on the bottle. Students are also encouraged to bring individual hand sanitizers from home.
